Pareto is looking for experienced Senior Copy Editor, Newsroom Standards professionals to collaborate with a leading AI lab on a groundbreaking project. The focus is on creating high-fidelity computer-use exercises that capture real newsroom copyediting workflows—complete with starting context, step-by-step actions, decision points, and final deliverables.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
CREATE REALISTIC EDITING PASSAGES: Develop breaking news stories, features, captions, and push alerts that reflect actual newsroom practices.
APPLY AP STYLE AND NEWSROOM STANDARDS: Ensure all content adheres to AP Stylebook Online and established newsroom guidelines.
SEED AND IDENTIFY ERRORS: Insert and detect errors in grammar, usage, numeracy, dates, names, and libel/ethics flags.
PRODUCE GOLD-STANDARD REVISIONS: Deliver revisions with tracked changes and rationales using Google Docs (Suggesting Mode) and PerfectIt.
QUALITY ASSURANCE: Review peer-created items for quality assurance and provide constructive feedback.
COLLABORATE WITH DATA/PSYCHOMETRICS: Partner with experts to validate scoring and maintain a change log for continuous improvement.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS
5+ years of professional copyediting experience in media, journalism, or content production.
Proficiency with Google Docs (Suggesting Mode), AP Stylebook Online, PerfectIt, and LanguageTool.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards under tight deadlines.
Excellent written communication skills and ability to transform implicit expertise into explicit, reproducible instructions.
Commitment to editorial integrity and accuracy.
TIME COMMITMENT
Calibration: Paid 1-hour trial within first week of acceptance.
Pilot: 1-week paid pilot; successful completion leads to being invited to the official project, which will last approximately 2 months.
Ongoing target: At least ~10–20 hours/week during pilot; 2-month contract in case of project success.
Top performers during the 2-month official project will be invited to potential future AI Training projects.
COMPENSATION & CONTRACT
Hourly rate: $70-$100/hr
Employment type: At-will contractor to Pareto.
Geographic flexibility: Remote work from anywhere; compensation adjusted by location while maintaining competitiveness.
